“World-renowned Puppeteer brings immortal Punch & Judy Show to Festival this year!”
A timeless presentation of the immortal “Punch & Judy Puppet Show” will be brought to the 2017 Bay Area Book Festival, organizers revealed today. Known as “the best Punch & Judy show in America” this amazing children’s show is being presented for two days only by the world-renowned Bay Area performer Brian Patterson with the Piccolo Puppet Players.
Done in traditional British style with audience participation, the show is rarely seen in the U.S. but incredibly popular with children the world over. “Landing Punch & Judy was a major entertainment coup for the festival,” revealed one inside source.
Loved by royalty and family alike for more than three centuries, The Punch & Judy Show delivers a timeless message to children about the values of kindness and honesty, all wrapped up in colorful action, slapstick humor, sight gags and rollicking audience participation. Charles Dickens was particularly fond of Punch & Judy, and the art form of the street show, with it’s roots in Italian commedia dell’ arte, and can be traced back in it’s British form a full 355 years!
“We are so excited to have Punch and Judy here with us,” said event organizer Lisa Bullwinkle. “Like the kings and queens of old in Europe, our kids also just love Mr. Punch. We are excited to be presenting a true historic art form!”
Look for Piccolo Puppet Players in the Children’s Area of the festival both Saturday and Sunday, performing three shows a day (see event website for full times and details).
